Foreo Bear Review: How Is It Compared to Other Microcurrent Facial Devices?

Few skincare devices have garnered instant recognition as the Foreo Bear. When the microcurrent treatment launched in late 2022, it seemed like just about every beauty influencer and experts were comparing it to the wildly adored NuFace Trinity.

We’re not surprised why, considering both use microcurrent technology to lift, tighten, and smooth sagging skin. Not to mention many dermatologists are swearing by the treatment.

Both in-office and at-home microcurrent facial devices release electrical current to the skin that stimulates collagen production and thus, cell renewal. These devices can either be used on their own or as an added enhancement to injectables such as your fillers and Botox. Do however, bear in mind that you should pause this treatment for the first two weeks after any dermatologist appointment to let your fillers and Botox settle in place.

How Foreo Bear Works?

Microcurrent facial therapy uses low-level electrical voltage to stimulate facial muscles, causing them to perk up. But just like building muscles on your body, consistency is key.

The Foreo Bear is significantly more powerful and has faster delivery time compared to other microcurrent devices. Then there’s the genius addition of T-Sonic Pulsations to boost blood circulation around your face, imparting the same depuffing benefits you’d experience from a thorough face-rolling or gua sha session.

How Do You Use the Foreo Bear?

As you would any device, the Foreo Bear must only be used on clean skin. When I say “clean”, I mean a face that’s completely free of oils, which can prevent the microcurrent from penetrating your skin and working its magic. You can either skip the oil cleanser or do a double cleanse afterward.

Next, you will need a conductive layer to guide the microcurrent past your skin surface. Foreo recommends its water-based Serum Serum Serum. Alternatively, you may opt for any ultrasound gel provided it contains conductive polymers.

The final part is important because you’re going to need to apply a generous amount of whatever you’re using on your skin. Don’t skimp! You need to frost your face with a thick enough layer so it doesn’t evaporate before your session is done. You may work in sections to make sure nothing dries out: tackle your midface (jawline to cheekbones) first, then forehead and neck later.

The Foreo Bear runs on a three-minute cycle, which you can extend should you need more time.

To turn it on, simply press the middle of the silicone-wrapped body once. The lights will come on, indicating intensity levels 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest intensity of electrical current. You can double-press to turn the accompanying T-Sonic pulsations on and off. The device will automatically switch off at the end of the three-minute cycle, but you can also long-press to turn it off manually.

Split your face into the aforementioned three sections—midface, forehead and neck, going horizontally from chin to neck on your midface, then using upward motions for your forehead and neck. The steel balls that conduct the current should glide easily across your skin.

How Does It Feel Like Using the Foreo Bear?

You may experience a teeny bit of tingling which is the result of your muscles twitching underneath the skin. However, thanks to Foreo’s patented anti-shock system, the tingles were way less intense than many other tools in the market. It’s not painful in any way, but you can feel it working. Our tip for you is to apply another layer of the serum or any ultrasound gel of your choice when the shock starts increasing—it’ll help mitigate the feeling.

When Should You Use Foreo Bear?

Think of microcurrent like a daily workout for your face, with time in between for your muscles to recover. You may choose if you want to set aside the time to do it in the morning or at night.

Is Foreo Bear Worth Investing In?

At $329, the Foreo Bear belongs firmly into the splurge category. Yes, it’s pricey, but when something works enough to give you a facelift all at the comfort of your own home, it’s well worth it. Though it can’t completely replace your visits to the dermatologist’s office, it does things to your face that simply can’t be replicated with certain skincare products and topicals. Of course, the results won’t be as fleeting as you expected it to be the first-go round but consistency is key, be dedicated to using it as its results are cumulative. Scoop this up and prepare to get snatched!
