Although I’m not particularly hairy for a lady, I still think I have too many hairs under my arm or along my bikini line. So, having dedicated tons of time to reading up the pros and cons of using lasers at home, I decided to give it a try. And what better way to start than with one of the best IPL hair removal devices on the market—the JOVS Venus Pro.

Promising countless impressive features, I decided to put the new tool through its paces, testing its design, ease of use, value for money, and results, to find out if it lives up to its name.

Performance – A Learning Curve
Once the attachment head was in place, I went in to shave off my underarm hair and cleansed the area properly to ensure that it’s free of leftover deodorant, body lotion, and even sweat, as advised. Before zapping any area of your body, it’s important to test the desired treated area with the machine prior, to make sure your skin wouldn’t react negatively to the light exposure.
With any of the modes, I highly recommend you to begin at level one and gradually work your way up according to your pain tolerance. The higher levels may feel like small electric shocks, which can be uncomfortable and painful to a beginner, but you’ll get used to it eventually.
I must stress that when used as instructed, the device is relatively painless. Having said that, do expect a slight tingle rather than any unbearable discomfort. Assuming you do experience pain, I urge you to stop immediately.
The only pitfall of the JOVS Venus Pro was the noise of its cooling fan, which was rather loud, almost like the lowest setting of a hairdryer.
As directed by the brand, I held the attachment head directly and vertically on my skin for optimal exposure. By holding down the lightning bolt button for about three seconds, you will activate the auto-mode, which will then allow the device to get to work itself, taking a lot of clock-watching out of the equation.
To mitigate skin burn (of which there was very minimal), I activated the cooling mode with the touch-control button, in order to make the experience slightly more pleasurable for me.
I was impressed by the automatic switch off feature, when I was interrupted several times during my session. The sound of the fan, nevertheless, still keeps going even in cooling-down mode. Another great feature I need to point out is that whenever the device overheats, you will see an “error” signal on the screen which will stop the device from working immediately.
With all that being said, despite all the state-of-the-art features and nice extra touches, the device isn’t portable. In my case, I had to opt for an extension cord to plug it in so I could sit comfortably with the device in my hand. A bit of downer, but once you’re used to the flow, the machine is quite easy to operate even for a first-timer.
Results – Noticeably Smoother Skin and Less Hair
How quickly will you see results from the JOVS Venus Pro IPL hair removal device, you may ask. In my experience, having used the device about three to four times a week over the course of a month, my underarm is significantly smoother, and my regrown hair is more spare and thinner, too! The results have encouraged me to move on to other areas of my body while keeping up the work on my underarms.
JOVS Venus PRO Review – My Verdict
Although I was a tad bit critical at first, this machine did an amazing job. My experience wasn’t at all painful, uncomfortable, or anything in between. It’s thus far the best-looking IPL device on the market: it’s sleek, stylish, lightweight, and has easy-to-understand instructions.
