SmoothSkin Pure Fit Review – Tried & Tested IPL Hair Removal Device

We’ve all experienced this: You’re on a beach vacation or decided to wear shorts, and body hair gets in the way. Hair removal of any kind can be painful, cost- and time-consuming. What if I told you that there’s an at-home IPL hair removal device that you can use at your convenience that causes minimal pain and comes at a fraction of cost? It seems almost too good to be true, innit? So when I heard about the SmoothSkin Pure Fit IPL Hair Removal System, a device that could mimic salon results in as little as four weeks, I knew for sure that I had to give it a go.

How Does IPL Work?

Intense Pulsed Light, or IPL for short, emits multiple wavelengths of light, which is converted into heat, to destroy the hair follicle. Making IPL different from other hair removal lasers, is its use of multiple wavelengths—compared to other lasers that use only a single wavelength—to pinpoint the pigment of the hair follicle only to minimize damage to the surrounding skin. Since laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment of the hair follicle, dark hairs tend to respond the best to such a method.

Before delving deeper into the full experience, I spot-tested the laser on one part of my leg to ensure my skin wasn’t reacting negatively to the laser. Prior to any SmoothSkin session, you have to remove the hair and create a clean slate for the laser to work on. I prefer shaving, so I went in with shaving my legs and underarms, which is where I tested the device.

Quality & Design

At first glance, I was obsessed with its glossy-black design with luxurious gold trim. The simple controls and power bars blend in seamlessly with the clean, sleek look.

The SmoothSkin Pure Fit is also very lightweight, at 270g but feels sturdy and solid to the touch. The IPL bulb produces unlimited flashes, therefore you need not worry about running out of those. The power cable is fixed into the handle for added durability too. All in all, it’s a quality device, built to last and will keep going for decades to come. Above all that, you get a 2-year warranty, how amazing is that!

Is the SmoothSkin Pure Fit Easy To Use?

Although the SmoothSkin Pure Fit IPL hair removal device features a smaller tip for areas that require a higher precision like above the lip, I started with the bigger tip for my legs. It’s pretty user-friendly: It will not zap light or heat without skin contact (the dots on the side will light up white when there’s good contact and red when there’s poor contact). I’m particularly fond of this feature, because no matter which direction I was going in, it took the guesswork out of trying to get the laser to work in the right spot. The only pitfall to the dot indicators was that it can be tricky to get perfect skin contact in certain areas, like the knees. I found I had to rotate the laser either vertically or horizontally in some hard-to-reach spots to get the right contact. To use the device on my legs and underarm, it took me about 20 minutes each time.

Is It Painful?

Like how I would with new devices and products, I started off hesitant, because I thought it would cause unbearable burn or pain. However, to my surprise, the multiple wavelengths made the pain level extremely low. At most, you will feel a warming sensation and a feeling similar to rubber bands snapping, and that’s that. The pain was so minimal that you might find the heat relaxing. During my first use, my pain threshold was a 2 or 3 out of 10. Part of my legs though, hurt slightly more (near my ankles where there’s more prevalent bone).

When Can You See Results with the SmoothSkin Pure Fit IPL System?

SkinSmooth promises noticeable results after three to four weeks, you will start to see significant lack of hair regrowth, and that was the case for me. I didn’t buy the technology at first, especially at how it guarantees to deliver quick results, but it did, my hair started growing back slower in some areas after 3 weeks. By the fifth week, I went about 2 weeks without needing to shave.

After using the SmoothSkin IPL hair removal device once a week for eight weeks, I had very little hair growth whatsoever. The brand suggests continuing weekly sessions for 12 weeks, but I am already amazed at what I’ve yielded. Of course, you need to give and take a little: Due to the low pain level and affordable price tag as opposed to salon laser treatments, touch-ups are needed every few weeks to keep regrowing at bay.

Here’s a tip, wait for 10 minutes after showering to use the SmoothSkin Pure Fit IPL device since slightly damp skin makes the process hurt more. Also, just because it doesn’t hurt doesn’t mean it’s not doing what it’s supposed to; I sometimes went over areas more than once, and it definitely didn’t add any value.

SmoothSkin Pure Fit Review – My Final Thoughts

The fact that this handsome and nimble, low-pain device zapped virtually all of my body hairs still left me jaw-dropped. I’d give it a perfect score just for the price and ease-of-use alone, all thanks to the powerful point-and-zap technology, along with a gentle mode for added control. The only downside, nonetheless, is that its results are not as permanent as laser hair removal. But of course, I used it with expectations, therefore I am still very satisfied with all that I’ve achieved. If you can afford its price tag, I’d definitely recommend you give it a try. Say you don’t find the results as satisfying as you expected it would be, you’re entitled to a worldwide 90-day money-back guarantee, so you can try it risk free. There’s nothing to lose!
