Perform These Easy Eyelash Straightening Steps At Home to Reverse a Failed Lift or Perm Job

Many of you may be mystified as to why anyone would ever want to straighten their eyelashes. Why on earth would you iron out those glorious curls you got after an expensive eyelash lift or eyelash perm sesh?

It sounds bizarre until you notice the discomfort an overly curled lash could bring. The pain of having crookedly curled lashes poking into your eyes and eyelids — that’s the reality living with overly curled, crooked eyelashes, whether it’s something many people are trying to achieve.

Eyelash perms and lifts don’t always end up flawless. If you don’t like how your eyelashes turn out after the sesh and want to get rid of them, or we could say reverse the job, fortunately, there are ways to do so easily at home.

Here is How to Straighten Eyelashes at Home When They’re Too Curly for Your Liking

Step 1: Take a Shower

Taking a shower right after your lift or perm sesh can quickly break down the product.

Step 2: Apply Castor Oil

Though any type of oil works well, we highly recommend Castor oil because not only will it help reversing the treatment, but it’s also a great natural oil for thickening and lengthening your natural lashes. Check out 10 of our favourite Castor oil picks here.

Simply apply a thin layer of the oil directly on the lashes to break down the keratin formula.

Step 3: Use an Eyelash Curler for a Subtle Lash Lift

Doing so helps to reduce the keratin even more, as well as really push the Castor oil into your lashes for maximum benefits.

Meanwhile, Here is How You Can Partially Reverse the Perm if You Wish to Remain Some of Its Curls

Step1: Apply Perm Solution

Using a spoolie, apply an adequate amount of perm solution to the lashes you deemed overly curly. Slowly brush from the roots down the ends and add more perm solution along the way. Continue this step until the overly permed lashes begin to straighten out. This shouldn’t take more than 2-5 minutes.

Step 2: Remove the Perm Solution

Gently remove the perm solution using a cotton pad to soak it off your eyelashes. Be careful not to pull on your lashes while doing this step. Pressing the cotton pad gently on top of your lashes can easily do the trick.

Step 3: Apply Setting Solution

Using another spoolie, apply a small amount of setting solution to your lashes. Brush gently from the roots and move your way down the ends. This step should take no longer than 1 minute.

Step 4: Remove Excess Setting Solution

Use a cotton pad to soak off the excess setting solution. Again, press the cotton pad gently on top of your lashes to avoid pulling them.

If you’ve followed all the instructions and steps accordingly, you’ll notice that your eyelashes have relaxed a little and you’ll still see curls in them.

Finally, use the spoolie and give your lashes a final brush and curl them the way you want.

Alternatively, Opt for a Heated Eyelash Curler

If you’re talking about extremely curly, crooked and unruly lashes, a regular clamp-style lash curler is simply inadequate to do the job as it will only accentuate the direction of your rogue lashes.

The only eyelash straightener that will truly straighten your lashes and give them the style you want is a heated eyelash curler. The heat works to gently loosen the tight curls and coax your lashes into the direction you want them to go. It even works to tame even the most stubbornly wild lashes.

In this case, we recommend Acavado Heated Eyelash Curler. Boasting great reviews on Amazon, this product delivers thermal heating in merely seven seconds. Unlike other heated curlers, this comes with a wider comb, making it the best eyelash straightener in getting every lash at every angle. The downside of this method, of course, is the time it takes. It’s essentially doing double work: ironing out the curl and lifting your lashes into a natural, sweeping curve. The good news however, is that it still doesn’t take forever — about a minute or two for each side. Start by combing your lashes with the heated curler from the top side of your lashes, and brush down. This will help loosen and straighten the tight curls.

To ‘Set’ The Style,

Use an Eyelash Primer

Lashes are essentially just hair and as with all hair — a good priming product can help to hold the style you want. Here we recommend both Clinique’s Lash Building Primer and the more affordable counterpart, L’Oreal Paris’ Makeup Double Extend Beauty Tubes Lengthening Mascara which work equally well in adding length and volume to your lashes.

Even better, you may select a lash primer that also doubles as a conditioner, in this case, Blinc’s Lash Primer is our favourite. It is free of irritating chemicals such as dye and fragrances whilst enriched with anti-inflammatory and healing ingredients that moisturize, nourish and strengthen your lashes.

Add Mascara (Optional)

This final step really depends on your preference but adding mascara on top can help weigh down your lashes and help ‘set’ the style even better.

Of course, you can always do extra rounds with the heated curler after applying mascara, just make sure to wait until it’s completely dried before that!
